The table below is a rough guide on what we advise parents to pay au pairs and is based on a 5 day work week; the hourly rate is based on the number of hours worked per day and is not influenced by the number of days worked per week. i.e. if the au pair works for 2 hours on a Monday, you must pay him / her R170 for Mondays, but 4 hours Tues – Fri, you must pay him / her R280 for each of those days, making the total salary for the week R1 290.
