ABOUT THE KERRY CAPSTICK-DALE AWARDS
The Kerry Capstick-Dale Student Leadership Awards are designed to recognise and perpetuate excellence and achievement in student leadership at the University of Cape Town. This gives the Awards a unique niche and positioning at the University, because they are neither bursaries nor merit awards for academic success.
The Awards are deliberately focused on rewarding and encouraging student leaders who – by virtue of the time they commit to the university community outside the lecture theatre – enrich the life of UCT. They seek to reward students who, through exceptional leadership qualities in student affairs, have shown dedication to the University, and have advanced the ideals of the University’s Mission Statement. Such students should display an enlightened approach to life, generosity of spirit, humour and integrity.
To our knowledge, outside of UCT and the Vice-Chancellor’s Awards, the Kerry Capstick-Dale Student Leadership Awards are unique in all of Southern Africa, and there appears to be no comparable award at any other university in the sub-continent.

ABOUT THE APPLICATION PROCESS
Once you begin this application, you must complete it to submission. Closing the browser or logging off will delete all of your information unless you have submitted your form. You will receive a confirmation email once you have successfully submitted your form. If you do not receive this confirmation email within 24 hours of submitting, please contact the Scholarship Administrator.
What happens after you submit your application?
The Trustees will review all applications received before the deadline and will shortlist between 10 and 15 candidates for a follow-up interview. Shortlisted students must make themselves available for a personal interview by the Selection Panel should they wish to be considered for the award.
Shortlisted students will be contacted personally by the Scholarship Administrator to inform them that they have been shortlisted and confirm their attendance at the interview.
Once the interviews are complete, the Selection Panel will meet to finalise the winners. The Selection Panel’s decision is final.
Winners will be announced at the same time as UCT’s Student Leadership Awards ceremony. This date is decided by the University each year, but is traditionally held in the fourth quarter.
