  • GENERAL OBLIGATIONS – WINGU ACADEMY

    1. While the Learner remains registered with Wingu Academy, we undertake to exercise reasonable skill and care in respect of his/her/their education and welfare within the limits of our curriculum offering (our Blended learning offering including online courses, live classes, formative and summative assessments). This obligation will apply during academic hours and at other times when the Learner is participating in activities organised by Wingu Academy.

    2. We shall monitor your learner's progress at Wingu Academy. We will advise you if we have any concern about the Learner’s progress, but we do not undertake to diagnose any learning disabilities or other condition. Weekly notifications are sent to learners for overdue tasks, and if tasks are not submitted within a week, a notification to the parents are sent to inform them to take note. It remains the responsibility of the legal guardian to ensure that learners are motivated and up to date in the home. Wingu Academy supports the parent to do this by means of the weekly notifications, a parent monitor login and access to the Subject Heads for advice. Weekly consultation times provide an opportunity for learners to obtain additional academic support.

    3. The parties further take cognisance of the limitations of Wingu Academy’s physical environment, especially the fact that it is an online academy that teaches through electronic medium only. We have established measures to mitigate against system failures, which will make it unlikely that our schedules will be interrupted by power outages, but remain dependent on general electricity and data providers in order to teach and cannot guarantee continuous classes at all times.

    4. All classes will however continue, and be recorded, despite communication breakdowns. These, together with other classes and Masterclasses, will be made available to Learners should the classes be interrupted through system failures on the part of Wingu Academy or the Learner.

    5. Wingu Academy would further arrange extracurricular activities that will enrich the learning environment of our learners, as and may be accommodated in an online environment.

    6. Although our system includes facilities and resources that may be utilised to provide high-quality education to children with special educational needs (whether due to neurological barriers, hearing impairments, visual barriers, physical barriers, behavioural or emotional barriers or any other medically assessed special need) our teachers, tutors and lecturers are not specialists in this field but will strive to assist these Learners to the best of their ability.

    7. If, however, it becomes apparent, in the reasonable opinion of the Head of the Academy, that Wingu Academy cannot, or can no longer, provide adequately for a Learner’s specific educational needs, Wingu Academy may not offer enrolment with Wingu Academy or may cancel this contract in terms Wingu Academy's Cancellation Policy.

  • GENERAL OBLIGATIONS - PARENTS/GUARDIANS

    1. You will inform Wingu Academy in writing, prior to admission and enrolment, of any special educational needs of your Child known to you, in accordance with Wingu’s Concession Policy

Click here to read Wingu Academy's Concession Policy

    2. You will provide the necessary infrastructure and hardware to enable the Learner to attend individual electronic classes in an environment conducive to attention and concentration.

    3. You are responsible to provide an environment conducive to learning at home, and to ensure that the learner is engaging with the platform in order for Wingu Academy to provide an effective education service. Wingu Academy cannot be held liable if the learner is not being encouraged at home to engage with the platform. If a learner is not engaging with the platform, the Head of Academy can elect to cancel the enrolment based on the assumption that the platform is not a good fit for the family in order to preserve the integrity of the platform.

    4. Wingu Academy is an online curriculum provider housing three virtual schools, which offer live classes, blended learning courses and formative and summative assessments by means of a distance learning education model. As such, there exists a responsibility of the parent to ensure that education is taking place in the home by acknowledging the limitations of a distance education learning model.

    5. It is the responsibility of the legal guardian to be acquainted with the relevant laws and regulations on home based education in their respective country and territory. Wingu Academy will not be held responsible for informing you of, or enforcing the local legal and regulatory requirements for any learner enrolled at Wingu Academy.

For South African clients, Wingu Academy encourages you to register the Learner younger than 15 years old as a Home School student with the local Department of Basic Education or to seek the advice of the Pestalozzi Trust. Wingu Academy accepts no responsibility for ensuring that all legal requirements are met by the family and will not be held responsible for confirming of your status of registration at the local department of basic education. Please view the following document explaining this process:

Legal Requirements for Homeschooling in SA

    6. When the time comes for final examinations, you will register the Learner at the respective assessment centre of your choosing for the various examination bodies that we service such as the Cambridge Assessment International Examinations (CAIE), Pearsons EDEXCEL, South African Comprehensive Assessments Institute (SACAI) associated assessments centres and pay all necessary examination fees at your selected examinations centre.  It is the responsibility of the legal guardian to ensure that the learner is registered for the correct subjects with the correct examination board.
